RePlay is a sustainable, returnable container system designed to reduce single-use packaging at your local supermarket deli. When you choose a RePlay container, you help reduce waste without changing a thing about the way you shop.
Choose a returnable container at the deli counter to fill up with good mood food. Tap your card or phone to validate your Visa or Mastercard.
Provide your email address at the deli to receive reminders of when your container is due to be returned.
When finished remove the pricing sticker, rinse the container and return it to the RePlay smart bin in-store within 4 weeks to avoid the $3 charge. The packaging is sanitised in-store and ready to go again and again!
RePlay containers will be provided free to borrow if scanned and returned to the smart bins provided within 4 weeks.
If you return it after 4 weeks you will be charged $3 per container. However, if you return the container after 4 weeks, but before 6 months, there is a partial refund of $1 per container.
A deli team member scans the QR code on the container, and you tap your credit card or smart wallet. You can provide your email to get reminders to return the container. Your order is prepared as usual, and you pay at checkout like normal.
Yes, RePlay containers come in three sizes – small, medium, and large – to fit your needs.
Once you’ve enjoyed your meal, simply remove the label and give the container a quick rinse. Place it in your reusable shopping bag so it’s easy to bring back with you, just make sure to return it within four weeks.
When you’re next in the same store, scan the container and drop it into the RePlay Smart Bin. From there, you can head to the deli counter and “tap to borrow” a freshly sanitised container with your next order.
If you damage the container so it can no longer be reused you may still be charged. However, please return it as you may still be eligible for part refund.
If you’ve lost your lid, you can still return the container base to avoid being charged. Return any lids you find later to the smart bin with your next container.
Just like normal! After choosing a RePlay container and tapping to validate your account at the deli counter, your deli item is labelled and priced as usual. At the checkout, you pay for it with your other groceries as normal.
Current Cards accepted are: Visa debit or credit card, or a Mastercard debit or credit card. This can be the card or your mobile wallet on your phone. At this stage, no other card can be used - but watch this space!
By tapping to borrow a container with either a Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, we will validate this with a temporary pending transaction. Bonson does not store your card details. This validation will show as a pending transaction on your statement, but the payment will not be processed. It will disappear after a few days.
No, you still pay for your deli item at the checkout just like you would with a regular container. All container sizes work the same way and there is no difference in the non-return charge for each.
You’ll need to validate your contactless credit card to borrow a RePlay container. If you don’t have one, you can still use a standard single-use container instead.
In order to obtain a receipt you will need the transaction number from your Visa or Mastercard credit/debit card statement. You can do this on the Receipts page of this website.
Note: Banks use proxy numbers on each device for tap transactions, so to retrieve your transaction, ensure you use the same device and transaction method: eg: if you used your mobile phone at the deli counter, retrieve your transaction via this, or if you used your Visa card, use this to retrieve your transaction details.
For example; if you used your mobile phone at the deli counter, retrieve your transaction via this, or if you used your Visa card, use this to retrieve your transaction details.
If you have any issues, please drop us a note and we are happy to help.
When you add your credit or debit card to mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay, the wallets generate a Device Account Number (DAN), which is a unique, digital card number for each virtual card. Instead of using your actual card number for payments, your device transmits this secure DAN, which can only be used from your device. This system helps prevent fraud and keeps your real card details private - the merchant never gets your actual card number, only the DAN.
Across all New Zealand banks and major payment providers, your DAN is used for payments and refunds made by mobile wallets, not your physical card number.
Each device gets its own DAN, so adding the same card to multiple devices creates multiple different DANs.
When trying to retrieve your transactions, you will be asked for the last four digits of your DAN. Using the last four digits of your physical card will not allow you to retrieve your transactions. If these transactions were made using the DAN.
To view your Device Account Number:
You can get a list of containers borrowed, and card transactions made, from the device in the store. We will need to validate your card first, and then you will be linked to a transaction list. You can choose to have this emailed to you (along with reminders!)
If you have a transaction on your card account statement, you can go to https://replayreturn.com/receipts to retrieve details of this.
Simply rinse the container and lid, and bring them back to any participating supermarket. Scan the QR code on the base of the container at the RePlay smart bin to register the return. That’s it!
Each container is individually logged in the system, so be sure to scan every QR code individually to confirm return and ensure you are not charged.
If the QR code doesn’t scan, ask a team member for help. Your return can still be registered manually.
Great! There’s no charge for using the system.
If you return the container between 4 weeks and 6 months after use, you’ll be charged $3 but you may receive a partial refund of $1 once the container is returned.
If the container is not returned within 6 months, the $3 charge remains, and no refund will be issued. The container is yours to keep or recycle.
If you think you've been charged incorrectly, contact us. We’ll investigate and help resolve it quickly.
By providing your email, you'll receive friendly reminders to return your container on time, helping you avoid being charged for it.
That’s fine too! The system still tracks your container via the QR code and your card. Just remember to return it within 4 weeks to avoid the charge.
If you provided your email, you’ll receive return reminders with your due date. Otherwise, the return window is 4 weeks from when you tapped your card. TIP: make a note in your calendar!
We ask that you rinse the container and lid before returning it. All containers and lids are then professionally washed and sterilised at the supermarket before being reused.
Absolutely. Returned containers and lids go through a rigorous commercial wash and sterilisation process to ensure they're completely safe and hygienic for the next use.
RePlay containers are available at participating supermarkets and can be returned to smart bins located at those same stores. Check our store locator for a full list of participating locations.
Nope! No app is needed. Just tap your card and go. It’s simple and hassle-free.
Yes - your payment is handled securely through Stripe, a leading global payment platform. We capture only a token that Stripe provides, so your transactions are linked. If you validate your card and provide us with an email address, we can give you access to your transaction history, and also send you reminders. No one else can access this without validating your credit card.
